The Historical Fiction Novel for 2026

In Easter Week 1916, a small group of Irish rebels held back British forces at the Battle of Mount Street Bridge, the bloodiest engagement of the Rising.
Outnumbered over a 100 to 1, these rebels delayed the advance of an empire. Later referred to by some historians and commentators as “Ireland’s Thermopylae”, the battle has come to symbolise a small force standing against overwhelming odds.

This is one of their stories.

Based on the true life of William Rownan a.k.a Willie Ronan

From Dublin to New York, Willie Rownan is an ordinary Irish lad with an ordinary dream, to make a new life in America. But history has other plans.

As Ireland edges closer to rebellion, William is drawn into a world of secrecy, sworn loyalties, and impossible choices. What begins as youthful idealism hardens into duty, and duty soon demands a price he never imagined paying.

As the struggle deepens, William must weigh duty against the impact his choices have on those he loves.

Can a man survive the bloodiest battle of the Easter Rising without consequence?
